Karangazi Sector Leaders Unite to Drive Development
Village leaders in Karangazi Sector, Nyagatare District, have pledged to step up their efforts after a 3-day retreat that brought together village leaders, cell leaders, and sector leaders. The retreat aimed to put citizens at the forefront, happy, peaceful, developed, and clean, while also emphasizing unity as a driving force for development.
To demonstrate their commitment to improving their work, village leaders in Karangazi Sector have vowed to increase their efforts, particularly in areas such as cleanliness, security, health insurance (mutuelle), education, and overall development.
Gakindi Marcel from Kigirakombe Village said: "This retreat has left us with a lot to think about, as it showed us the importance of working together with those we lead, which will enable us to continue meeting our targets." He added: "Our village is currently ranked second in meeting targets, and we are determined to work even harder to reach 100% target achievement."
The Executive Secretary of Karangazi Sector, Mutesi Hope, praised the role of cell leaders and village leaders in helping the sector excel in meeting targets. She said: "This year, we are determined to double our efforts. We will continue to be close to the population, solve their problems, provide quality and timely services. We will also provide performance evaluations in villages and households based on their performance."
Mayor Gasana Stephen commended the village leaders for their crucial role in implementing district targets, describing them as the backbone of development close to the people. He urged them to continue working hard, innovate, and strive for excellence.
"Village leaders are the eyes of the government. Our targets can only be achieved if they are present, helping us implement what we have committed to for the population. We ask them to continue working hard, innovate, and strive to make their villages crime-free like Gakoma."
According to the 2022 national census, Karangazi Sector has a population of 96,915 people, comprising 11 cells and 53 villages. The sector's health insurance coverage stands at 43.2% for the 2025-2026 year, with the district's top-performing sector, Rukomo, achieving 76% coverage.
Village leaders and cell leaders who excelled in meeting targets for the 2024-2025 were awarded recognition and certificates for their dedication and hard work. The retreat was held on July 13, 2025, under the theme "Citizens at the forefront, happy, peaceful, developed, and clean".
